Angel of Death Horace Vernet(1789-1863) Medium: Oil on canvas Year: 1851 Housed at: Hermitage, St. Petersburg, Russia Recommended printing size at 300 PPI: 27x35 in Closest to original: Approx. 44.5x57.69 in Maximum at 100 PPI: 52x67.41 in Before placing your order, select the “Customize it!” button on the lower right below “Add to cart,” then select “Print Options” mid-upper left. Enter one of the dimensions for the desired frame size. Émile Jean-Horace Vernet (30 June 1789 - 17 January 1863) was a French painter of battles, portraits, and Orientalist Arab subjects. Vernet was born to Carle Vernet, another famous painter, who was himself a son of Claude Joseph Vernet. Fittingly, he was born in the Paris Louvre, while his parents were staying there during the French Revolution. Vernet quickly developed a disdain for the high-minded seriousness of academic French art influenced by Classicism, and decided to paint subjects taken mostly from contemporary culture. Therefore, he began depicting the French soldier in a more familiar, vernacular manner rather than in an idealized, Davidianfashion. Some of his paintings that represent French soldiers in a more direct, less idealizing style, include Dog of the Regiment, Trumpeter's Horse, and Death of Poniatowski. He gained recognition during the Bourbon Restoration for a series of battle paintings commissioned by the duc d'Orleans, the future King Louis-Philippe. Critics marveled at the incredible speed with which he painted. Many of his paintings made during this early phase of his career were considered to combine anecdotal accuracy with a charged romantic landscape. Examples of paintings in this style include the Battle of Valmy, the Battle of Jemappes, and the Battle of Montmirail. Over the course of his long career, Horace Vernet was honored with dozens of important commissions. King Louis-Philippe was one of his most prolific patrons. His depictions ofAlgerian battles, such as the Capture of the Smahla and the Capture of Constantine, were well-received, as they were vivid depictions of the French army in the heat of battle. After the fall of the July Monarchy during the Revolution of 1848, Vernet discovered a new patron in Napoléon III of France. He continued to paint representations of the heroic French army during the Second Empire and maintained his commitment to representing war in an accessible and realistic way. He accompanied the French Army during the Crimean War, producing several paintings, including one of the Battle of the Alma, which was not as well received his earlier paintings. One well known and possibly apocryphal anecdote maintains that when Vernet was asked to remove a certain obnoxious general from one of his paintings, he replied, "I am a painter of history, sire, and I will not violate the truth," hence demonstrating his fidelity to representing war truthfully. Vernet died in his hometown of Paris in 1863. In Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes story The Adventure of the Interpreter Holmes claims to be related to Vernet, stating, "My ancestors were country squires... my grandmother... was the sister of Vernet, the French artist." I was so amazed at how this all turned out. Everyone who attended the funeral was in awe of how beautiful it was made. And I owe it all to Zazzle. I wouldn’t have done it better myself not to mention I wouldnt have time to do it. The great part of it all was they had templates that was catered to my needs and that I could use it in ways I wanted to use to resize it my way. It took some time but I was happy it turned out great. I did 100 photos, 89, 66 photos (I think) lol templates. The only suggestion is that the templates, before sending through would tell you of errors like; saying please revise or resize it again for any photos that is not perfectly well sitting or not show it’s cutting off some of them and where it tells you there’s duplicates. Staring, placing and resizing all 100 + pictures into the template can be tiresome and overwhelming and it makes my eyes blurred that I can’t tell if they’re cutting off or overlapping or duplicates. Overall I am very pleased and will be using Zazzle again should the need arises. Thank you Zazzle. Altogether I’ve done 3 collages 1 profile picture and couple pictures with 1 frame and yet this is my first time ordering as a 1 time customer. Prices were very reasonable and accommodating to my finances. .

Fun bright artwork that really captures the mood I’m going for! Pop art with cyberpunk energy. A little sweet but also spicy. This art is the perfect size and vibe for our art gallery wall. The printing looks great, high quality with vibrant colors! I went with the semi-gloss finish, which adds a little extra shine and thickness to the print making it excellent for high-traffic areas like the staircase wall.
