Coal was at one time the Dominate energy in the United States. It powered our factories and was used to generate Electric power. It was also used by the railroads to power Steam Locomotives. IN 2015, U.S. coal production, consumption, and employment fell by more than 10%. We still mine coal for exports. The United States exports more coal to other countries than it imports from other countries. The United states imports and exports steam coal and metallurgical coal. Steam coal can be used for electricity generation and metallurgical coal can be used for steel production.
