Arnica chamissonis is a member of the Aster family, Asteraceae, or Compositae family. Arnica is one of the wildflowers which favors southern Alaska, and its region extends into the eastern Aleutian Islands. Arnica is a medicinal plant used in ointments to soothe sore muscles and bruises.
