Atlas Coelestis by Doppelmaier, Vintage Astronomy

Vintage illustration astronomy and antique celestial image featuring Atlas Coelestis by Johann Gabriel Doppelmaier (1677-1750) created in 1742. Astronomers are on the ground around a globe of the earth and palms trees. Angels are in the sky holding up clouds, stars and constellations. Doppelmaier (Doppelmayer, Dopplemayr or Doppelmair) was a German mathematician, astronomer, cartographer, and wrote about sundials. He was born in Nuremberg, Germany, the son of the merchant Johann Siegmund Doppelmayr. He entered the Aegidien-Gymnasium in Nuremberg in 1689, then the University of Altdorf in 1696. His studies included mathematics, physics, and jurisprudence. He completed his studies in 1698 with a dissertation on the Sun. The crater Doppelmayer on the Moon was named after him by Johann Hieronymus Schröter in 1791. The minor planet 12622 Doppelmayr is also named in his honor.

I love how my "Happy Pupcrossing!" postcard turned out! It's so pretty! Zazzle prints top notch postcards and greeting cards! This postcard is available in my online Zazzle shop without the text on it if you're not a Postcrosser. The easiest way to find my Zazzle shop is through my associate link which is located on the navigation bar of my artist website Ink Goes Wild Alaska. I earn a little extra profit when you use that link. Corinne Danzl Ink Goes Wild Alaska.
