Awa Province, Naruto Whirlpools by Ando Hiroshige Sandstone Coaster
Awa Province, Naruto Whirlpools (1855) by artist Andō Hiroshige is a vintage Japanese fine art wood block maritime painting. Asian art featuring waves crashing over rocks near the shore and whirlpools in the ocean in the Awa Province, Japan. This image originally came from a woodblock print from the series "Famous Places in the Sixty-odd Provinces."
About the artist:
Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川広重) (aka Andō) (1797-1858) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, one of the last great artists in that tradition. He was a member of the Utagawa school which comprised dozens of artists, and stood at the forefront of 19th century woodblock prints. Hiroshige is especially noted for using unusual vantage points, seasonal allusions, and striking colors. He adapted Western principles of perspective and receding space to his own works in order to achieve a sense of realistic depth.

I'm not sure how much moisture these will soak up, haven't had a chance to try them out, but they look good and I like the cork backing. The printing is fine ~ and really looks cool with an artisan's hand made "Hurricane Martini" glass sitting on top of my painting (on the coaster) in my studio.

Beautiful horse drawing on this coaster makes it a great conversation piece. Artist is very talented! The printing Zazzle did is nice and crisp, but not as black as I would have liked and the edges had some execess on them But some sandpaper fixed the issue
