Burrowing Owl captioned Mug. When I was a kid, about forty years ago, these cute little owls were found all over the prairies of south eastern Alberta, Canada. They don't actually burrow themselves they take over abandoned badger holes. Unfortunately DDT contamination in the seventies and eighties and loss of nesting areas to farming has made them a rare sight.
