B6 Western Meadowlark Square Paper Coaster

The western meadowlark is found all over the prairies on both the grasslands and the farmlands. Being ground nesting like almost all plains birds its numbers were dropped in the early days when a lot of the virgin prairies were plowed for crops and cattle were introduced on most of the remaining grasslands. It seems that they have figured out how to avoid the plows and cattle hooves since then and are once again very common and their distinctive and loud song can be heard all over the prairies once again. They feed mostly on grasshoppers, which makes farmers happy, and head south for the winter months, their return is a much a sign of spring on the plains as is the return of the robins.
