The first of several adaptations coming out of a humorous print from an 1881 Italian illustrated periodical, Rana Giornale. The frogs are dressed in street clothes climbing out of a packing crate carrying New Year's greetings on strips of paper. In the background, several frogs touring the latest wonders of the world from a tram pass by the frogs in street clothes. Other frogs drop mail from their balloon, two frogs read their balloon mail while sitting on top of the pyramids in Egypt and a lone frog perched on top of the Taj Mahal celebrates the wonder of balloon mail. One of the greatest wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal was built in the 1600’s under the direction of Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial tribute to and Maleum for his wife. It took over 20,000 workers 22 years to complete the construction. The first manned balloon flight did not occur in India until March 16, 1836 when Dimitri Robertson launched with his gas balloon from Garden Reach Road in Calcutta.
