Bank Hotel Architecture Downtown Vieux Hull Postcard

This photo was taken from Rue Eddy (Eddy St) at Promenade du Portage, Vieux Hull (Old Hull), Quebec, Canada, right across the Ottawa River from our nation's capital, Ottawa! The Bank Hotel was a famous drinking establishment throughout the decades, and working men from the factories and timber companies explained to waiting wives that they just had to stop in at "the bank" after work, and could thus sneak a couple of drinks before going home. The Bank Hotel was erected after the turn of the 20th century, after a huge fire raged through the town and destroyed almost all buildings, except a stone church, on the north side of the Ottawa River. Therefore most houses and other constructions, like the Bank Hotel, date from the early 1900s. Many other buildings are being torn down to make room for progress, but this popular bar was able to get heritage status and thus avoid the fate of its mates. It's no longer a bar and currently empty. This design with mustard yellow extended winow, sculptural trim, semi-rounded windows and bright brick patterns can appeal to anyone into architecture, history or old buildings, and makes a fantastic souvenir of historical Vieux Hull, or Quebec, or Canada.
