Battle of Paoli Postcard

The Battle of Paoli, also known as the Paoli Massacre, occurred during the American Revolutionary War on the night of September 20-21, 1777. It took place near present-day Malvern, Pennsylvania, and was a significant engagement between British forces under Major General Charles Grey and American troops commanded by General Anthony Wayne. The battle is infamous for the ruthless and controversial tactics employed by the British forces. Under the cover of darkness, Major General Grey's troops launched a surprise bayonet attack against the unprepared American soldiers who were encamped at Paoli Tavern. This brutal assault became known as the "Paoli Massacre" due to the savagery with which it was carried out.
