Berthe Morisot - Woman at Her Toilette Tote Bag

Woman at Her Toilette (Femme à sa toilette), also known as Lady at Her Toilette and Young Woman at the Mirror, painted between 1875 and 1880 in oil on canvas by Berthe Morisot, is an Impressionist interior centered on one of the artist's recurring themes: the private rituals of modern women. A young woman sits before a mirror as her figure, reflection and surroundings dissolve into silvery whites, pale blues and soft grays. Rather than treating the scene as a conventional portrait, Morisot turns the act of dressing into a study of intimacy, reflection and modern feminine life. Between 1876 and 1894, she painted around twenty scenes of women at their toilette, exploring the increasingly private nature of these rituals. This painting was exhibited as Femme à sa toilette, no. 115, at the fifth Impressionist exhibition in Paris in 1880.
