The Maneki Neko (招き猫?, literally "Beckoning Cat"; also known as Welcoming Cat, Lucky Cat, Money cat, or Fortune Cat. Sometimes incorrectly labelled Chinese Lucky Cat) is a common Japanese sculpture, often made of ceramic, which is believed to bring good luck to the owner. The sculpture depicts a cat (traditionally a Japanese Bobtail) beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed—many times at the entrance—in shops, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses. Some of the sculptures are electric or battery-powered and have a slow-moving paw beckoning. A wonderful bag of very sturdy, enduring material and good quality. It can carry a lot of weight without the seams tearing. The bag is a little larger than I expected, but I am utterly pleased with how it turned out, nevertheless. The black ink seems to be "soaked" into the fabric rather than being just printed "on top" of it. That means that the print can not simply be rubbed off, and I hope that - should I need to wash the bag - it will withstand the strain. The colour is (due to being "soaked" into the material) not quite pitch-black and shiny, but that is a fact that does not trouble me overmuch.
