Plate 102 Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) from The Birds of America by John James Audubon.
This image was scanned at very high resolution directly from the original book, The Birds of America by naturalist and painter John James Audubon (published in sections between 1827 and 1838 as a series). It has then been edited, cropped, sharpened and enhanced as needed for large scale format and use. While some of the original flaws form the old print will remain, this is one of the best versions of this artworks available. All 435 hand colored life-size watercolors in the original portfolio, reproduced from hand-engraved plates, are available. The 4X6 flexible, photo magnets are very sturdy and high quality. I especially like the rounded edges. Unfortunately, the cuts of the edges are a bit rough and jagged, which you can see in the photo, below. The edges can be trimmed with very sharp scissors but you do risk making the edges uneven. The printing on this project was a little bit fuzzy, the cause of which may be something on my end. I intend to contact customer service to see if there's anything I might do to improve the crispness of the image or if the issue lies with the printing, itself. Also, the product is just a bit darker than the original. Again, I intend to troubleshoot this, with customer service, to be sure where the issue lies.
