Brown Pelican on a Piling Coastal Art Pillow Solitary pelican has isolated itself on a piling in this beautiful lonely coastal scenery from my original acrylic painting. Although the mature birds have white heads and a much more gray color, the babies are all brown. You will find brown pelicans perched on posts and pilings everywhere along the Gulf Coast. Pelicans can be social birds, gathering together where fishermen are cleaning fish in hopes of catching a bite. Also they can be found following fishing boats. Where there are fishermen, a pelican or two can be seen waiting to see if they can get in on snagging a discarded part or maybe a whole fish that was thrown to them.
