Butterfly Nebula Jigsaw Puzzle

A unique puzzle featuring a Hubble Space Telescope image of the planetary nebula NGC 6302, also known as the Butterfly Nebula. The image includes a description of the object and the instruments used to observe it. Fun Stuff: NGC 6302, otherwise known as the Butterfly Nebula, is a lovely example of a planetary nebula. Planetary nebulae do not actually have anything to do with planets. The name stems from their similar appearance to a planet through a telescope eyepiece without a camera like those on Hubble to pick up the intricate details. Planetary nebulae like the Butterfly are material belched up by a star at their center. You can’t see the Butterfly’s central star, but it is there, and in an ending stage of its life, violently casting off its outer layers of gas. Technical Stuff: This image is the composite of multiple exposures taken by the ultraviolet/visible and infrared detectors of the Hubble Space Telescope’s workhorse instrument, Wide Field Camera 3. Eleven wavelength filters were assigned different colors to produce the beautiful scene you see here.
