Canada Day Red White Canadian Maple Leaf Wham-O Frisbee

The maple leaf has been a symbol of Canada since the mid-1800s, when it was appropriated by French and English settlers. The French used a green maple leaf and the English used a gold one. Over a hundred years later it became a stylized red maple leaf on a white field, with red borders. There are ten maple tree species native to Canada including the silver maple, sugar maple, Manitoba maple and red maple, which is the most abundant native tree in eastern North America. It's the sugar maple that produces the exquisite sweet syrup for your waffles and pancakes; the sugar maple has the most striking leaf colors in the fall. Maple leaves change color in autumn because as the weather gets chill the tree prepares for winter and stops producing chlorophyll, which creates the green pigment. Leaves assume brilliant hues of yellow, orange, red and burgundy. The color change is dramatic and short-lived, lasting only a couple of weeks. The leaves fall from the branches and scatter over the ground. You can rake up leaf piles and jump in them! Helps to have a kid along, to blame your sudden frivolity on.
