Cattleya Orchid and Three Hummingbirds (Heade) Watch
This design features an image of an oil painting by American artist Martin Johnson Heade (1819–1904). It shows Brazilian hummingbirds in a tropical setting. There is a beautiful big pink orchid with light-green stems and pods in the foreground. Moss hangs from the trees and a blue-gray mist shrounds the backdrop. The work may have been inspired by the drawings of Charles Darwin and Frederic Edwin Church, and it was completed in 1871. The original painting was acquired by the National Gallery of Art in 1982.
