Chicory Plant Magnet

The common chicory plant is part of the dandelion family. It is cultivated for use in salads, chicons (blanched buds) and roots which are baked, ground and used as a coffee substitute or a food additive. Wild chicory leaves have a bitter taste. When it is cooked and the water is discarded, the bitterness is reduced. Chicory is also grown as a forage crop for livestock.
