Most of my art centers around cats and/or Halloween. I was really in the mood to try something different and wanted to design a Christmas card. I couldn't really make just any card, though. I really wanted the tree to have some snow-covered branches. I really wanted the tree topper to be a star, and quite specifically, a nativity star. The nativity star really takes me back to childhood, when I first read an illustrated children's book of Christmas stories containing the "We Three Kings", or three wise men, tale. It was also important to me to use pink to shade the snow because even though we don't really think about snow as being pink, it can often look pink when reflecting certain skies. I kept the lights on the tree super simple to keep the piece from looking crowded. My original intention was for the luminosity around the stars to be less stripey and more blended, but I accidentally painted this piece on the wrong kind of paper, and it really absorbed the color differently than I expected. I still love the result. What do you think?
