City - Newport RI - The Newport lighthouse Two-Tone Coffee Mug

Newport, RI - That is the Newport harbor lighthouse, or also known as Goat island lighthouse, or simply as green light. Built in 1842, made into a historic landmark in 1988. It was not the original lighthouse on that spot however. The original one was built in 1824, but it was dim, and it was moved to Prudence Island which it still stands today. Originally this lighthouse was built further from the island, connected by a small bridge. In 1960, it was filled with back fill for the hotel. In 1921, it used to have a small keepers house, but after a submarine ran into its base, they had to tear it down.
