Classical Thanksgiving Mug

Classical Thanksgiving Mug

Get to know Thanksgiving in two classical languages on this colorful mug. It depicts a turkey, a harvest, and a pilgrim and includes labels in Latin and Ancient Greek. Notes: 1) At no extra charge, you receive both the standard word for "harvest" in Latin as well as a poetic equivalent. 2) The words for "pilgrim" would have slightly different connotations in pre-Christian antiquity, but are the correct terms. 3) Since turkeys are indigenous to the Americas, I have compromised a bit here. For the Latin, I use the scientific classification, which means "guineafowl rooster peacock" and offers a clever solution in Latin for describing a previously unknown bird. I think the Romans would have "gotten" it. For the Greek, I have used an older spelling (with double lambda) of the Modern Greek word, which connects it more clearly to its source in the Latin "rooster," but have included an alternate disused equivalent, i.e., "India rooster," which uses the ancient stem for India but transfers it to the peoples of the Americas and affixes it to the Ancient Greek word for "rooster." Again, I think an Athenian would have understood that a domesticated bird was the subject.

It is a lovely mug. The actual mug is shiny and smooth. Very nice quality. It was everything I expected. Zazzle has so many nice mid century modern designs to choose from. All so pretty! The design was very clear and looked expensive.
