Claude Monet - Japanese Footbridge, Giverny Golf Head Cover

Japanese Footbridge, Giverny (Le Pont japonais, Giverny), 1895 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. After seeing a Japanese garden at the 1889 world's fair, Monet expanded his gardens at Giverny and, in 1893, bought land with a pond near his property, where he created the water garden that would become one of the central subjects of his later career. The arched bridge gave the pond a clear structural motif before the water lilies came to dominate his paintings, and this canvas is one of his first attempts to capture the garden in paint. Its composition and colour draw on the Japanese prints he collected. Bridge, vegetation and reflective water remain distinct elements, unlike in the later water-lily paintings.
