Claude Monet - Palazzo da Mula Ceramic Tile

Palazzo da Mula, Venice, 1908 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. Palazzo da Mula belongs to the group of Venetian palace façades that Monet painted frontally from the Grand Canal during his 1908 stay. Working from a low viewpoint, probably from a gondola, he let the façade fill most of the canvas, with two stories of pointed arched windows and gondolas moored before arched openings at water level. The water below is painted in short horizontal strokes. Monet remarked that his Venetian views were not a series but different motifs repeated one, two or three times, and he reworked most of these canvases in his Giverny studio before showing them in Paris in 1912.
