Claude Monet - Poppy Field Hockey Puck
Poppy Field (Coquelicots / La promenade), 1873 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. Monet painted this celebrated landscape near Argenteuil during one of the most productive periods of early Impressionism. Camille and their young son Jean probably appear walking through the field, with a second pair farther away. The figures do not dominate the scene; they are woven into the same rhythm of color and brushwork as the poppies and grass. Monet showed the canvas at the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874. Its combination of family leisure, open-air painting and rapidly perceived color helped define the new movement for contemporary viewers.
