Claude Monet - The Artist's Garden at Giverny Jigsaw Puzzle

The Artist's Garden at Giverny (Le Jardin de l'artiste à Giverny), 1900 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. Monet had lived at Giverny since 1883 and gradually turned its gardens into a carefully planned source of motifs. He selected flowers not only for their species but for color and season, effectively designing nature before painting it. In this view, iris beds and a path lead toward the house without becoming a detailed garden inventory. Monet exhibited the canvas in Paris at the end of 1900, and the collector Montaignac acquired it directly from him that November. Offered at auction in 1928 simply as The Irises, it was withdrawn from the sale. By then, the garden itself had become one of the central subjects of Monet's mature career.
