Claude Monet - The Artist's Garden in Argenteuil Jigsaw Puzzle

The Artist's Garden in Argenteuil / A Corner of the Garden with Dahlias, 1873 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. Argenteuil was the center of Monet's life during a decisive phase of early Impressionism. Garden, family and river subjects gave him everyday motifs that could be painted directly in changing light. Here flowering dahlias dominate the scene while a distant couple walking near a fence is reduced to a few strokes. Paul Durand-Ruel bought the painting directly from Monet in December 1873, only months before the first Impressionist group exhibition. Half a century later it was exhibited in Paris under the charming title The House among the Flowers. Its early sale places this intimate garden view at the heart of the new movement's emerging market.
