Claude Monet - Water Lily Pond & Japanesese Bridge Skateboard

The Water-Lily Pond and the Japanese Bridge, 1899 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. In 1893 Monet acquired a swampy area next to his Giverny property and obtained permission to divert a small stream into it, creating the pond that he later crossed with a Japanese-style bridge. In 1899 he painted twelve works from a single vantage point. In this version, the arch sits just below the top edge of the canvas, and lilies, reflections and dense vegetation fill the surrounding field, forming an almost impenetrable green enclosure that has been compared to the medieval walled garden. The carefully designed garden is both subject and studio. When this painting was shown in London in 1905, it appeared under the title The Water Lily Pond.
