A unique tshirt featuring a Great Observatories (Hubble Space Telescope, Chandra X-Ray Observatory, Spitzer Space Telescope) combined image of the supernova remnant, the Crab Nebula. On the back is a description of the object and instruments used to observe it.
Fun Stuff:
The Crab Nebula is the remains of a massive star that exploded as a supernova 1000 years ago, a brilliant event that our ancestors could see as a “visiting star” with their bare eyes. It has since dimmed from view and was rediscovered only with the invention of the telescope. Today the exploded star is a dense object known as a neutron star that is rotating at a blinding 30 times per second and blasting high-energy particles from its poles and into the still-expanding shell of gas and dust that violently blew off the star during the explosion.
Technical Stuff:
The image is a combination of three space telescopes that sampled different wavelengths of light. The Hubble Space Telescope’s Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 captured the visible-light oxygen gas, colored in yellow. In blue the Chandra X-Ray Observatory ACIS instrument revealed the high-energy radiation from the central neutron star and the super-heated material surrounding it. Finally, colored in red, the Spitzer Space Telescope’s IRAC instrument traced out in infrared light particles that have been agitated by the neuron star’s extremely strong magnetic fields.

My 11 yo wore adult XL (5’7” 165#). The 8yo is small framed. She wore adult small and tied it in the back. Dark haired male wore adult large and 5’9”, 110# female wore adult medium . Good quality dark Heather gray, Gildan brand shirt. -it was next up from basic choice and cost about $20 per shirt. Not too thick or thin. Washed and dried well, no major shrinkage. Not see-through. Can wear a bra under it fine. Screen print is just as shown and well done, front and back.
