Cragged Beauty – Fine Art Calendar 2024 Ragged beauty – Textured paintings made from marble dust and pigments by Jutta Blühberger The paintings shown in this calendar belong to the latest series of visual artist Jutta Blühberger from Strobl am Wolfgangsee. They are material or textured paintings. The basic design element is always a structure – made of marble dust, for example. As a result, the paintings are usually very plastic, bordering on sculpture. Various layers are applied on it with different media. An essential part of the design are paints, which are made from pigments by the artist herself. These are mixed with various binders, such as tempera, casein and oil. In addition, the artist has used ink, stain, wax, glassine and pastels. The shaping of the textural material as well as the further steps of painting and color application are done in a very intuitive way. This technique belongs to the movement of process painting and has its origin in the subconscious. Thus, each step takes place in a kind of dialogue with the painting. For example, during drying process the textured material undergoes a certain transformation, which the artist cannot influence, and to which she then responds by "listening" and with sensitivity. Between the various applications of material and color, there is also repeated steps of removing material and color, creating special effects. Sometimes a painting also develops in a completely new and unexpected direction. Basically, the point is to focus on the textures and colors themselves. The title "Ragged Beauty" reflects this. This is because, depending on the thickness of the textured mass and the choice of binders, different sized bumps and fissures are created. These fissures are what make these paintings so unique and fascinating. The intuitive approach allows the viewer many different interpretations. The titles of the paintings indicate only one of many possible interpretations. Viewers are invited to engage with the paintings and let their imagination and fantasy run wild.
