Fundraiser for the Creating Freedom Sanctuary Project with Amy Smith Art. The Creating Freedom Sanctuary is a vision that planted its roots in my heart in 2015 when we first moved onto our property. I immediately began to dream about a building that would function, not only as my personal studio, but also as a space to invite others to come and find freedom through creative pursuits as well. We knew when we purchased the 11-acre tract and our home that it was not just for us, but would be a place of rest and respite for others who would come as our guests. In 2020, we began to plan and dream about the idea of putting a couple of respite cottages on the property for pastors and missionaries and others needing a place to retreat. As we began to talk about that idea, it just did not seem to pick up steam. In 2021, I shared my dream for an art barn with some fellow Christian Artists, and things seemed to just explode into forward momentum. We quickly realized that the art barn and the respite cabins were parts of the same dream and that the art barn should be the first structure built. Many people have come forward expressing a desire to support this project through prayer as well as through financial means. It has been almost overwhelming. We know that this is God’s project because his favor is all over it. We are so excited to begin to move forward. The vision for the entire property is that it would be a place of rest and respite for anyone who needs to come and retreat and receive that. We envision the art barn as the hub of the property, with guest cottages in other locations and a network of paths around the property for folks to get out and walk in prayer and meditation and spend time in nature. The art barn itself will have a footprint of 1000-1500 square feet with a lofted ceiling and a partial open loft. The main room will take up most of the footprint of the building. There will also be a kitchenette and 1-2 bathrooms, at least one including a shower. Art retreats and classes will be held in the space, and the space will also be a place to host ministry and other types of events to be determined. Guests will be able to come and create in a group setting, and we will also offer limited artist residency opportunities. Our dream is that the entire property will be a place for people to come for rest. It will be a place of gaining freedom in and through creativity. It will be a place of spiritual and physical healing, processing grief and growing closer to God.
