Cupid Untying the Zone of Venus Jigsaw Puzzle
Oil on canvas by Sir Joshua Reynolds entitled, "Cupid Untying the Zone of Venus". (Zone is an old-fashioned word for girdle) A young cupid with little wings untying the blue ribbon around the waist of Venus, who is covering half her face with a delicate hand. Painted in 1788, it is an example of mythological painting. The model for the nymph-like Venus was likely the celebrated Emma Hamilton, who was later the wife of Sir William Hamilton (the British Ambassador to Naples) and mistress of Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson.
