This is Schatzi, a cute little rescue kitten I adopted when she was about 4 months old. Her name means "little treasure" in German. She was abandoned by unknown owner at an age too young to be completely on her own. At first I tried to resist her cute little antics but eventually felt sorry for her, knowing she was becoming fearful, hungry and frightened. I didn't intend to keep her - the intention was to provide food, love and shelter til I found a home for her - but, I had no luck finding adoptive parents due to the current cat over-population crisis. The fluffy little scamp with her endearing almond-shaped eyes won my heart anyway. She's a Forest Cat breed, I think Siberian. This dear little kitten has a sweet temperament (a bit mischievous); she's quick to learn, affectionate and playful. Schatzi is about 6 months now and desperately needs to be spayed. There are at least three big nasty tomcats in the area. I'm on a partial disability / limited income, and pay for most of the cat care out my pocket - but the cost of spaying little Schatzi is about $300 (best deal of several vets checked), a bit too much all at once, so it's essential to raise the money :) The number of abandoned cats and kittens has reached epic proportions in this area. The local animal shelter is overcrowded with sick and frightened animals, even facing charges of abuse and neglect. There are several reasons for the surge in the abandoned and feral feline population - many landlords are now including "no pets" clauses in leases, so people just dump or leave their animals when they move. Also, as mentioned, the cost of sterilizing pets is quite high!
