Deadvlei, located in Namibia’s Namib-Naukluft National Park, is a surreal and hauntingly beautiful landscape that looks like a painting come to life. This clay pan, meaning “dead marsh,” is surrounded by some of the world’s tallest sand dunes, which glow in striking shades of deep orange and red. The pan itself is a cracked white expanse, punctuated by the skeletal remains of ancient camel thorn trees that died over 600 years ago.
