Dinoflagellates are unicellular organisms with whip-like organelles . Our dinoflagellate is a unique animal - the combination of an actual unicellular creature and a pterosaur called Quetzalcoatlus. The "dino" in dinoflagellate actually comes from the Greek "dinos," meaning "whirling." Thus dinoflagellate literally means "whirling whip."
