Greyhounds were amongst the most highest-favoured of all dogs; Pharoahs and other Egyptian, Asian and African leaders had images of their dogs engraved into their tombs dating as far back as 4000BC. They were used for coursing large game: antelopes, wolves and deer. Dog racing usually refers to Greyhound racing, which is the largest and most widespread type of canine competition. Dog racing is both a gambling event as well as a fund-raising event. The Greyhound is a breed of dog used for hunting and racing. It is one of the fastest land mammals, its combination of long, powerful legs, deep chests and aerodynamic build allows it to reach speeds of up to 72 km/h or 45 mph.
