The clematis has an unusually large number of "common names" or monikers, including: Traveler's Joy, Love Vine, White Vine, Ladies' Bower, Old Man's Beard, Devil's Darning Needles, Hedge Vine, Blue Jasmine, Vasevine, Ropevine and Devil's Thread. The most prolific, however, is "Virgin's Bower".
