Dunkleosteus was a top predator fish swimming in the seas during the Late Devonian period, about 400 million years ago. It is one of the first jawed fish, and one of the largest of the armored fishes. It grew up to over 30 feet long and could weigh in at about 4 tons. Its head is covered with bony plates of armor. Its jaws contain no teeth. But the jagged edges worked like massive scissors.
