Early American Poetry: "An Hymn to the Morning" Jigsaw Puzzle
This historical puzzle showcases one of Phillis Wheatley's best known poems, "An Hymn to the Morning." Phillis Wheatley was born in Africa, but brought to America to be a slave in Boston, Massachusetts. There she learned English, Latin and Greek, eventually becoming a poet and a free woman. Many of her poems, such as this one, contain themes from classical mythology. In this poem, dawn approaches and Wheatley asks the nine muses for help. This puzzle features an old illustration of Phillis Wheatley in the bottom-right corner.
