The five pointed star (pentagram) is the primary symbol for the Wiccan religion. Though it's usually depicted with a circle around it (pentacle), this is not obligatory.
The pentagram is the shape of the fixed trajectory of Venus's path around the sun, when viewed from Earth. That's made it pretty special since antiquity, long before us Wiccan nicked it. To us, the basic level is that all five points mean something - earth, air, fire, water and spirit/soul/awen/inspiration. Together they make 'completeness'.
