Empty, Sky Kanji Japanese Calligraphy Postcard

A kanji is the Japanese word for Chinese character. Chinese characters represent an idea into one character. Typically, one part of the kanji is the meaning of the character, while the other gives it the sound. They are usually combined with other kanji to make complex words. This beautiful postcard has Japanese calligraphy for the kanji 空. It can mean many things, like sky and empty. When used on its own as a word, sky is pronounced "sora" and emptiness is pronounced "kara". A word using this kanji is 空手, or karate! Did you know that emptiness is one of the 5 Japanese elements?
