His success on the battlefield, coupled with political maneuvering, eventually led to his rise as First Consul in 1799, effectively marking the end of the French Republic and the beginning of the Napoleonic era. Napoleon's crowning achievement came with the proclamation of the First French Empire in 1804, where he assumed the title of Emperor. Under his rule, France experienced a period of stability, economic growth, and administrative reform known as the Napoleonic Code.
