Excelsior Lutheran Church Postcard

Excelsior Lutheran Church Postcard

"Excelsior Lutheran Church, Wilson, Kansas" by Catherine Sherman. Excelsior Lutheran Church seems to stand under a giant wind turbine south of Interstate 70 near Wilson, Kansas. When you visit the church, the wind turbines aren't actually very close. In front of the church, a metal pole fitted with a circle parallel to the ground is lit at night, which creates a cross visible in any direction. I haven't seen the illuminated cross at night, so when I drove to the church, I initially thought the pole was some kind of antennas. In the foreground is a recently harvested wheat field. There is a cemetery to the east of the church. Excelsior means "ever upward" in Latin. The Kansas Historical Society published this information about the church: "The sixtieth anniversary of the Excelsior Lutheran church, located eight miles east of Wilson, was observed on October 6, 1946. A history of the church, by Mrs. Charles Bowers, was printed in part in the Ellsworth Messenger, October 10. The anniversary of the church also was noted in the Wilson World of October 9."

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
