THIS is how Americans reacted to all of the terrible death and dismemberment of the Civil War: they became terrified of being buried alive. This coffin was designed to allow the "deceased" to escape if he or she was buried alive. It's a great Halloween gift, though, or excellent for someone into engineering, or who's just really, REALLY macabre.
