Farmhouse in Nuenen by Vincent Van Gogh, oil painting on canvas 1885, is a landscape painting of a small farm house with thatched roof surrounded by soft trees beneath a bright blue sky with white clouds. The figure of a woman stands in front of the home, feeding her farm animals. Van Gogh created the picture while still working in his native Holland, in the somber palette of umber and earth tones that he favored in his early years. The realism of the picture, similar to Corot and the Barbizon painters, is heighted by the thickly applied, painterly brush strokes of impasto oil colors.
