A 19th and 20th century Black American ragtime and early jazz pianist, bandleader and composer, a creole born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Morton was Jazz’s first arranger. His composition “Jelly Roll Blues” was his first published jazz. At the age of 14 he began working as a piano player in a brothel. After a successful musical life, he died in Los Angeles.
