These two eye-catching nebulae are located right next to Alnitak, the easternmost star of Orion's Belt, and are about 1,500 lightyears away. The Horsehead Nebula (right) is a column of dust obscuring the red-light-emitting hydrogen gas behind it. The Flame Nebula (left) is a cloud of hydrogen gas and dark dust. Both nebulae are part of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, a star-forming region in the constellation Orion, the Hunter.
