"Fork-Tailed Devil, as the P-38 Lightning was known by the German Luftwaffe pilots due to its unique design. Many of the fighter squadrons during WWII had their own unique insignia, often designed by the men in their squads. This design was used by the 49th Fighter Squadron in Foggia, Italy. It is a colorful cartoon of a P-38 with fork-tailed devil in green and P-38 Lightning in red.
