Franciscan San Damiano Cross Gold Plated Necklace

This Necklace's San Damiano Cross pendant image features special style details inspired by the art deco era. Overall it is a replica of the cross Saint Francis of Assisi prayed before, in the 1200s. The purpose of a cross like this was to teach about Jesus to those who could not read or write. On the image, there are five witnesses of Jesus' crucifixion standing near Jesus and under His arms: On the left side are Jesus' mother, Mary, and John the Evangelist. On the right side are Mary Magdalene; Mary mother of James; and the centurion --who in Matthew’s Gospel asks Jesus to heal his sick servant. This servant is seen on the shoulder of the centurion. Additionally, six holy angels appear at the ends of the crossbar. The hands of these angels show they are communicating about the all too amazing labor of Jesus’s death on the cross. Also, on the top of the cross, Jesus is wearing kingly garments, and carrying the cross in triumph. Further, Jesus is pictured climbing out of the circular tomb, then into heaven with the holy angels. At the very top of the cross, in the middle, is found the Hand of God the Father with His two fingers extended in blessing. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God." - Hebrews 12:1-2
