French Country Mosaic Du Vin Mandala 1 by Deprise Acrylic Tray

This artwork comes from an original encaustic painting that includes real grapes and leaves. Elements of wine along with the spirit of wine are merged into this original work. After turning the original work into a mandala pattern to represent the whole universe within the human body, I altered the color and tones to resemble the French Country design of my family heritage giving it a modern artistic twist. A mandala (Sanskrit: मण्डल, literally "circle") is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe. In common use, "mandala" has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe. A mandala can be defined in two ways: externally as a schematic visual representation of the universe and internally as a guide for several psychophysical practices that take place in many Asian traditions, including meditation.
