What should I write on a Friendsgiving invitation?
- A greeting – Set the mood for the event with a bold, upbeat heading. "Time for Food and Friends," for example, or a cheeky "Can You Gobble ‘Till You Wobble?" for those funny Friendsgiving invitations.
- What is the celebration? – Let your guests know the reason for this celebration.
- When is it? – Choose a date and time for your Friendsgiving event.
- Where is it? – Provide the address or venue details and include directions, if necessary.
- How to RSVP – For RSVP purposes, add updated contact information.
- Other info (optional) - Include any extra information about this event. Encourage guests to bring a dish on a potluck invitation, or ask them to dress up for the day if you’re planning a costume party.

What is Friendsgiving?
Friendsgiving is a Thanksgiving dinner but with your closest friends opposed to your family. This is a modern solution for those not living close to their family during the Thanksgiving season. Have all of your chosen family sit around your table and enjoy the dinner you spent hours cooking. Many people choose to host it before the real Turkey Day, as their guest may spend Thanksgiving traveling home to be with family.
What time should my Friendsgiving start?
That depends on whether you’re hosting a mid-afternoon meal or a delightful dinner. For a Friendsgiving lunch invite, we recommend around 1pm or 2pm: any later would edge the event closer to a dinner, and any earlier could put pressure on everyone to arrive on time (especially if they’re trying to sew themselves into a costume for that aforementioned fancy dress party). For a Friendsgiving dinner invite, around 5pm would be best: you don’t want to keep those hungry bellies rumbling for too long, and there should be ample time then for post-dinner games and activities!
When should I send out Friendsgiving invites?
Although Friendsgiving is more casual than Thanksgiving, sending your invites 4 weeks in advance will give your attendees time to make any necessary arrangements (do some shopping, book transport or accommodation, or mull over their potluck contribution). You may be able to give less notice if your friends are close at hand – in the next town over, say – but if any of them will have to travel cross-country to sample your cooking, at least 4 weeks to save the date is advisable! For any Friendsmas invitations you plan to mail in the coming months, the same would apply – 4 to 6 weeks will ensure your party doesn’t clash with a friend’s work commitment or family gathering.
